A DOUBLE is the same as a SINGLE, (in that it spells another word backwards) but in addition, the meanings of the two words are connected in some way. Let's see if you balk at these. Here is an example to give you a "better-butter-batter" idea of what we mean by a DOUBLE.
Take the word BUTTER. If you make butter, you have to put it in something. This means you RE-TUB it. Butter spelled backwards is "re-tub", minus one of T's.
Notice that the backwords meaning still has something to do with the original meaning. Also note that some lee way (Chinese jeans?) in spelling is allowed when you try to stretch a SINGLE into a DOUBLE. After all, those who make the rules, determine the outcome -- so try these on for size.
If your stomach's feeling RESTLESs, go to the ice box and get a SELTZER, but bubbling right along with connected meanings..... If you are in a STORe, what is it you don't want the food to do? (Eliminate the E, reads it backwords, and you gots it, ROTS.) Do you think of your BOSs, as a SOB?
If you squeal (no pig jokes) on the MOB, expect a BOMb.
Did you ever wonder where the Pom Pom's got their POM? (Look in the janitor's bucket.)
If he is a conversational BORe, does he ROB you of your time?
If you get in trouble, you're LIABle to need BAIL
When you go to take a bath, what do you put in the TUB?
If you are fighting for LIBERty, ty one off, change a vowel and become a REBEL.
If you take your PILLOW to an overnight party, there's a good chance you'll use it to WOLLIP some body.
"Weather" you're cold (BURR) or you get one under your saddle, the RUB will probably come.
If somebody is that big (BULK), you'd better use a CLUB.
When you go to SELL something, will you take LESS for it?
When you take a TOUR, hopefully your ROUTe will be the same.
and driving along...When you need to stop your KAR, better add a "B" on the end, an "E" on the front, throw it in reverse, and step on the BRAKE. ... In fact, this is a good place to semi-stop because we're beginning to run out of gas and patients (waiting room joke). So ... here's a few more Double Entries for the IRS, or is that IRA?

so ...... Let's end this formally. Shall we dance? A POLKA (see polka below) is definitely A KLOP, and since we're leaving now, a TUXEDO "seams" to have an ODD EXIT... so those were the DOUBLES. Have you noticed that we have a double standard? If you think we had to stretch on this batch, wait till you see what's next. Please make allowances (Thanks, Mom.) for us during the intermissions.

POLKA according to SMARTY PANTS "Legend has it Anna Slezak invented the polka in 1830. The story goes she was humming and skipping through her town in Bohemia when Joseph Neruba asked her to teach him the steps and tune. He brought the dance to Prague ballrooms in 1835."
