FLIPPED OUT (Flip Wilson) : Most DoubleTake TRIPLE REVERSES use this type of rotation, like the example "MOW" (above). Others include: suns, MOW, NOON, and SWIMS. While many TRIPLE REVERSE are symetrically like a DoubleTake REVERSE (the word is the same both ways, like "mow"), verbally asymmetric like a DoubleTake DOUBLE REVERSE (the words are different, like "mom" and "wow") but often include a DoubleTake meaning. |

HARPS: (named after the famous Lucy and Harpo mirror routine). Known (in the ambigram world) as bilateral or mirror-image symmetry, TRIPLE REVERSE HARPS include words that can be both read normally and when reflected in a mirror. Although not really DoubleTakes, we include them here because they are interesting and who knows if Leonardo is looking? Some uppercase letters have vertical (left/right) symmetry: A, H, I, M, O, T ,U, V, W, X, Y. For example:
Try these words in a mirror (or your mind if you mind): TOOT, wow, mom, HAH, YAY, TOT Other uppercase letters have horizontal (top to bottom) symmetry: B, C, D, E, H, U, K, O, X. For example: CHOICE or CODEBOOK. |

HITS CLASSIFICATION THEME / SCHEME / DEFINITION |
SINGLE: any word that spells a different word when read in either direction. |
REVERSE: a word or expression that spells the same thing forward as it does backwards. |
DOUBLES: the same as a Single, (in that it spells another word backwards) but in addition, the meanings of the two words are connected in some way. |
DOUBLE REVERSE: occurs whenever a word spells a different word when read backwords and the two words mean the opposite of each other. |
TRIPLE: occurs when a word's spelling and meaning remain the same when reversed. In addition, any word that may have been in one of our other HITS may also be included. |
TRIPLE REVERSE: occurs when a word or phrase can be read in more than one way or from more than a just one point in space. The basic TRIPLE REVERSE is a 180° rotation," mean"ing (pun intended) that it reads the same upside down and right side up. |
