IS GOLD JUST A 4-LETTER WORD?

Columbus

"Gold is the most excellent thing.  Of Gold, treasure is made, and with it, he who possesses it does what he wishes in the world." Christopher Columbus

GOLD!  Even the name "rings" like magic and makes the adrenalin start to flow. Gold is one of the oldest metals known to man. (This isn't a sexist statement - he usually ends up giving it to a woman anyway.) The properties of gold are many and varied. Gold is: practically insoluble; the most malleable, easy to work with, metal or alloy in existence; soft and has a low melting point, yet very dense; and "heavily" consumed in the computer industry because of the metal's high electrical conductivity.  Due to gold's ability to reflect infrared radiation, it's now being used in outer space, while at the same time being used in "inner space" to help treat severe arthritic conditions. And of course, we can't forget its place in oral denhistory

SUN
Our ancestors didn't know or even care about all of this. They were simply attracted to gold because of its beauty and color. They believed gold was a gift from the sun because the metal has the same color. Also, since gold didn't fade or tarnish like other metals, it began to be used in religious rituals and for jewelry. Gold is relatively scarce (Scarce is what some people like to see in relatives.), but it's also evenly distributed throughout the world and thus became a valuable medium of exchange. Because of its high density, gold was easily transported and couldn't be imitated by Al Chemy (see Stone(d) High), "and others" of his counterfeit friends, aka, Also Known As, "Et Al".
But enough about gold. If you want trivia, go to the chapter entitled "GOLD 'N TRIVIA ". Anyhow ... a Gilligan's Island episode just came on while we were typing (MANY YEARS AGO NOW). Gold lust, ends their chance to leave the island, when their raft sinks because everyone except Gilligan tried to take their new found gold with them. "That's a switch", said Gilligan, "usually, I'm the one left holding the bag".

While researching the Legend of the Lost Dutchman for the Goldbuster Guidebook that accompanied the Superstition Gold album, DoubleTake found many things about Gold.  NOTE: MANY OF THE WEB PAGES USED IN THE GOLD 'N STUFF SECTION HAVE BEEN TAKEN FROM THE GUIDEBOOK, BUT HAVE BEEN EDITED FOR THE INTERNET AND DO NOT NECESSARILY USE IN"CLUE" INFORMATION ABOUT THE DT'S SEARCH FOR THE GOLD.
